With validated methods for cannabis-based products to ensure quality, safety, and efficacy.

Accurate analysis of CBD products is essential to ensure they meet required levels of quality and potency and there are no safety concerns in respect to THC, CBN, pesticides, mycotoxins, heavy metals, residual solvents or microbial contamination
The term "CBD" is an acronym for cannabidiol, the second most abundant chemical in cannabis. CBD is one of the many cannabinoids that are found in cannabis and hemp plants. The most abundant cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is classed as a psychoactive drug. Modern marijuana flowers may contain about 10% to 35% THC, while hemp contains only about 0.3%.
Fera has been testing Hemp for many years for THC and this knowledge together with our scientific expertise and our range of high-quality analytical instrumentation means we are able to analyse most products for CBD content and cannabinoid profiling using a range of methods appropriate to the matrix. Fera is a UKAS accredited laboratory and almost all the tests that we offer are covered under our UKAS accreditation scope (or under our flexible UKAS scope).

We quantify a range of 13 cannabinoids (including THC and CBN) in your products by LC-MS/MS. This allows our experts to provide rapid and expert advice to enable customers to act on the information provided.

We can quantify the level of CBD in your product using HPLC (UKAS accredited for oil products). For purity check and CBD content in excess of 70%, we offer qNMR testing.

We can help to ensure that you provide all the necessary evidence, compliance data and risk assessments to satisfy the requirements of the regulatory authority.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) commissioned Fera Science Ltd. to carry out a survey of cannabidiol (CBD) products on sale in England and Wales in order to inform FSA risk assessment of CBD products. The survey commenced in October 2022 and was completed in March 2023. 100 CBD products on the FSA public list, at the time of the survey, were purchased from a range of online sellers from England and Wales. Samples comprised of oils and sprays, capsules, confectionary, beverages and a range of miscellaneous products that included other foods and dog treats. The sampling followed a scheme suggested by FSA.
